A small artwork with the soul of Rotterdam
Minimalist, playful and designed by artist Tomas Schats. The Erasmusbrugschommel brings the iconic skyline to life in a timeless way.
A small artwork with great character.
Connecting since 1996
An icon in the skyline
Always in motion
The icon of Rotterdam
A bridge that connects neighbourhoods, people and generations. With its slender 139-metre pylon and elegant steel cables, the Swan was not only a feat of engineering but also a powerful symbol: a city that wants to move forward. It linked the historic north with the innovative Kop van Zuid.
Today it is far more than a traffic link. It is a meeting place, a cultural icon and an anchor in the skyline. In an age of sustainable mobility it remains an indispensable connection between neighbourhoods, people and ideas. Not just steel and concrete, but a living link between past, present and all that Rotterdam is yet to become.
"The Swan embodies Rotterdam: powerful, elegant and always moving forward."

Movement in stillness
Bring a piece of Rotterdam home with this unique art object. Its elegant design combines clean lines with playfulness: a miniature swing not meant to be sat on, but to be admired.
Perfect as an eye-catcher in the living room, the study or on a sideboard. Both a stylish accessory and a talking point for guests. An ode to modern design and Rotterdam pride, with a touch of poetry in motion.
Tomas Schats
An artist with a sharp eye for simplicity and a story in every line. Tomas Schats (1976) is known for his clear linework and his playful, poetic way of seeing. With minimal means he tells images that make you pause.
Simplicity as strength, every line has a function. Stories without words, small observations with a gentle wink. Calm and nuance, images that do not shout but invite.
He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Den Bosch and worked for a time in Norway. His brief study of architecture shows in his feel for structure and minimalism. He has also worked for clients such as NRC and the VPRO guide. In his recent work he explores how his drawn world comes to life in 3D.
"To say as much as possible with as few lines as possible. That is my challenge."Tomas Schats
